My 3D sculpture responds to Australian artist Megan Cope’s practice of incorporating code into her artworks of places that mean a lot to her. I drew inspiration from also Australian company Below the Boat to figure out how to represent the environment. I have chosen 2 islands that I regularly see and sail around to explore as those locations have been important and familiar to me for most of my life. I have made this artwork 3D and accurate to depth charts because I have to regular study how the depths change over time so I have the best knowledge of the area. The code is that while now, the artwork reflects the real time depth, in a year, the land will look different which is something I find super cool. When you experience this artwork now, try to imagine what it might look like this time next year.
